Blue Microphones is een Amerikaans microfoonmerk dat vooral bekend werd door zijn USB-microfoons voor podcasters, streamers en thuisopnames. Microfoons als de Yeti en de Snowball groeiden uit tot vaste namen bij wie thuis begint met opnemen.
Wat 'Blue' betekent
De naam Blue is een letterwoord: het staat voor Baltic Latvian Universal Electronics. Dat verwijst naar de oorsprong van het merk, dat in 1995 werd opgericht door een Amerikaanse muzikant en een Letse opnametechnicus, met de eerste microfoons gemaakt in Letland. In de beginjaren richtte Blue zich op professionele studiomicrofoons.
Van studio naar USB
Begin jaren 2000 verlegde Blue de koers. Waar het merk begon met professionele XLR-studiomicrofoons, was het een van de eerste die de microfoon vertaalde naar een eenvoudige USB-versie voor opnemen thuis. Reeksen als de Snowball en later de Yeti sloten aan bij de opkomst van podcasts en online video, en werden daar een vertrouwd beeld. Naast microfoons kwamen er later ook koptelefoons en toebehoren bij.
Waar het merk voor staat
Blue bouwde een reputatie op voor microfoons die studiokwaliteit toegankelijk maakten voor een breed publiek. In 2018 werd het merk overgenomen door Logitech. Logitech bouwt de aparte merknaam Blue sindsdien af en verkoopt bekende producten zoals de Yeti verder onder de eigen naam. Wie een Blue-microfoon zoekt, komt daardoor vaak dezelfde toestellen tegen onder Logitech.
