Installing a Ring doorbell — how does it work?

That depends on the model. Wireless variants (Battery Doorbell) are attached with screws or adhesive strip — no wiring needed. Wired models (Doorbell Wired, Pro 2) connect to your existing doorbell wiring: remove the old doorbell, connect two wires, done.

Ring provides a step-by-step guide with each product. Beyond that, you only need Wi-Fi and the Ring app.

Ring doorbell wireless or wired — what is the difference?

Wireless runs on a rechargeable battery. No cables, but you need to charge the battery every few months — or connect a Ring Solar Panel for continuous use. Wired is powered via your existing doorbell wiring and never needs charging, but requires that you already have a wired doorbell.

In terms of picture and features, both types are comparable. The choice comes down to installation and maintenance.

Ring camera outdoor or indoor — which to choose?

Outdoor cameras (Spotlight Cam, Floodlight Cam) are weatherproof and designed for rain, frost and sun. Indoor cameras (Indoor Cam, Pan-Tilt Cam) are more compact and cheaper, but not weatherproof. The Stick Up Cam is suitable for both: indoors and outdoors.

Rule of thumb: choose a Ring outdoor camera for the driveway, garden or back of the house. Choose an indoor camera for the hallway, living room or office.

Does a second-hand Ring doorbell work without a subscription?

Yes. Every Ring doorbell — new or second-hand — works without a subscription. Live view, motion notifications and two-way audio are free. Only video recordings in the cloud require a Ring Protect Plan.

With a second-hand unit, you link the device to your own account via the Ring app, exactly as with a new unit.

Resetting a Ring doorbell — how do you do it?

Hold the reset button on the device for 15 to 20 seconds. The exact location varies by model. After resetting, you reconnect the doorbell via the Ring app.
