In het kort

Bosch PKS 66 AF – circular saw with 1,600W and 66mm cutting depth

The Bosch PKS 66 AF is a hand-held circular saw with a 1,600-watt motor and 66 millimetres of cutting depth in wood. That's enough for most sawing jobs around the house.

The saw comes with a guide rail for straight cuts along the full length. The no-load speed of 5,000 rpm is constant – the motor holds its speed under load. Note: this is a corded model, so you'll need to work within reach of a power socket. The included Speedline Wood blade is designed specifically for wood and cuts through planks, skirting boards and beams quickly.

The design is practical: a softgrip handle for control, a safety switch to prevent accidental start-up, and a spindle lock for changing the blade. The CleanSystem Box collects sawdust – handy for indoor work. Cutting depth adjusts via a quick-release clamp, from 0 to 66 mm at 90° or up to 48 mm at a 45° mitre angle.

Bosch PKS 66 AF – a circular saw built for straight cuts in wood

The Bosch PKS 66 AF is a hand-held circular saw with a 1,600-watt motor and 66mm cutting depth in wood. That's enough for most sawing jobs around the house. The no-load speed of 5,000 min-1 is constant – the motor holds its speed under load. Note: this is a corded model, so you work within reach of a socket. The included Speedline Wood blade is specifically designed for wood and cuts quickly through planks, skirting boards and beams.

The design is practical: a softgrip for control, a safety switch that prevents accidental start-up, and a spindle lock for changing the blade. The CleanSystem Box catches sawdust – handy if you're working indoors. The cutting depth is adjustable via a quick-release clamp, from 0 to 66mm straight or up to 48mm at a 45° bevel angle.

How the 1,600-watt motor performs in practice

The 1,600-watt power output is on the high side for a hand-held circular saw. That translates to consistent speed under load – the motor spins at 5,000 rpm unloaded and holds that pace when cutting through a 66mm beam. No slowdown, no burn marks in the wood. The downside: you feel the weight – 5.4kg – after an hour of cutting. It's not a machine for fine joinery, but for straight, long cuts in construction timber.

Under the hood

  • Power – 1,600W, mains-powered – enough for planks, beams and doors up to 66mm thick
  • Blade – 190mm diameter, 30mm bore – the Speedline Wood blade is optimised for speed in wood
  • Cutting depth at 90° – 0 to 66mm – that's a 6.6cm beam in one pass
  • Cutting depth at 45° – 0 to 48mm – for mitre cuts, such as on skirting boards or door frames
  • Weight – 5.4kg – noticeable during longer sessions

Build quality and materials of the Bosch PKS 66 AF

The blade guard is aluminium – that's tougher than plastic and feels solid. The base plate measures 160 x 327mm and has a groove for the guide rail system. That rail is included, a 2 609 255 732 model, and ensures straight cuts along the full length. The softgrip on the handle is not only comfortable – it also dampens vibration. The machine weighs 5.4kg, which is on the heavy side for a hand-held circular saw, but that weight contributes to stability during cutting. No wobble, no play.

Daily use: what the PKS 66 AF can and cannot do

This is a saw for wood. No metal, no stone – the included Speedline Wood blade isn't designed for that. The cutting depth of 66mm straight and 48mm at an angle covers most jobs: cutting skirting boards, sizing doors, fitting kitchen worktops, beams for a roof extension. The guide rail is essential for long, straight cuts – without the rail you use the CutControl, a mark on the saw that shows where the blade cuts. That works, but for precision the rail is better. The CleanSystem Box catches some of the sawdust – not all, but enough to keep the workspace tidy.

The safety switch has a dual-sided start lock. That means you have to press the switch on both sides before the saw starts. Accidental start-up is virtually impossible. The spindle lock makes changing the blade easy – one action, no extra tools needed. The noise level is around 92dB – hearing protection is recommended, especially during longer sessions.

The blade has a diameter of 190mm and a bore of 30mm. The Speedline Wood blade is designed for fast cuts in softwood and hardwood. It's not the quietest blade, but it cuts efficiently. The parallel guide, included, helps with cuts parallel to the edge of a workpiece. The cable length isn't specified – expect a standard length of a few metres, so an extension lead is handy for larger workpieces.

The cutting depth is set via a quick-release clamp. No tools needed – you loosen the knob, set the depth and tighten it. The same goes for the bevel angle up to 45°. The settings are precise, with a readable scale. The machine has one speed – 5,000 min-1 – no variable speed control. That's typical for a circular saw in this class; constant speed is more important than variability.

The package contains the saw, the guide rail, the CleanSystem box, the Speedline Wood blade and the parallel guide. No extra blades, no storage case. The package weight is 8.41kg – the saw itself weighs 5.4kg, the rest is accessories and packaging material. Package dimensions: 438mm long, 303mm wide, 278mm high.

The manual is in Dutch, French, German and English – multilingual, as is usual with Bosch. The warranty is 2 years, with the option to register for a third year via MyBosch-Tools.com. Accessories, batteries and chargers are excluded from that extension. The repair type is carry-in – you take the machine to a service point.

The machine has no laser guide, no plunge saw function, no dust extraction system included. Dust extraction is present – a connection for a vacuum cleaner – but you have to provide that yourself. The CleanSystem Box catches coarse sawdust, but for fine dust an external extraction is better. It's a circular saw, not a plunge saw – that means you place the saw on the workpiece and cut, not lower it into the material.

The guide rail system is a plus. The groove in the base plate fits the rail, so you get straight cuts without the saw wandering. The rail is 160cm long – suitable for most boards and planks. For longer workpieces you can connect multiple rails, but that's not included as standard. The rail is made of aluminium, light but rigid.

Changing the blade is quick: press the spindle lock, loosen the nut, swap the blade, tighten. No extra tools needed. The Speedline Wood blade is a carbide-tipped blade with a specific tooth geometry for wood. It's designed for speed, not silence – expect a typical saw noise. The blade is 190mm in diameter, with a 30mm bore – a standard size, so replacement blades are easy to find.

The machine is suitable for wood. No metal, no stone, no plastic – unless you fit the right blade. The included blade is for wood. The cutting depth of 66mm is enough for most beams and planks. For thicker materials you need a larger saw. The bevel angle of 45° gives a cutting depth of 48mm – enough for skirting boards and door frames.

The softgrip is comfortable, but during prolonged use your hand may sweat – the material isn't breathable. The machine has no vibration damping in the handle, but the 5.4kg weight naturally dampens vibration. The safety switch is well placed – you can operate it without losing your grip. The start lock is dual-sided: you have to press the switch on both sides. That prevents accidental start-up, but it's also an extra action.

The CleanSystem Box is a plastic container that attaches under the saw. It catches sawdust that would otherwise fall on the floor. It's not a vacuum cleaner – fine dust escapes. For indoor work, an external dust extraction is recommended. The box is easy to empty: click it off, empty it, click it on. The system works, but it's not a miracle cure.

The parallel guide is a metal rod that attaches to the side of the saw. You set the distance to the blade, and the guide runs along the edge of the workpiece. It's a simple system, but effective for straight cuts without the rail. The guide is 160cm long – enough for most workpieces. For longer cuts, the rail is better.

The machine has no variable speed – one speed of 5,000 min-1. That's common for circular saws in this class. Constant speed is more important than variability, because the motor holds its revs under load. The noise level of 92dB is average for a circular saw. Hearing protection is recommended, especially during prolonged use.

The package contains the saw, the rail, the CleanSystem box, the blade and the parallel guide. No extra accessories. The manual is in Dutch, French, German and English. The warranty is 2 years, with an optional third year after registration. The repair type is carry-in. The machine is made by BSH Hausgeräte GmbH in Germany. The model number is 0603502000. The EAN is 3165140477901.

The saw is designed for straight cuts in wood. The combination of 1,600 watts, 66mm cutting depth and the guide rail makes it suitable for construction work. The 5.4kg weight is a compromise between stability and portability. The CleanSystem Box is a practical addition, but not a replacement for dust extraction. The safety switch is well thought out. The Speedline Wood blade is fast, but loud. This is a tool for someone who needs straight, precise cuts in wood – and is willing to carry the weight.
