Bosch Professional GSR 12V-15 – Cordless Drill Driver Set

The Bosch Professional GSR 12V-15 cordless drill driver delivers 30 Nm of torque and spins at up to 1300 rpm. That's enough for drilling in wood up to 19 mm and in metal up to 10 mm. It's a 12V machine – not the most powerful in the shed, but nimble and light. The set comes with two 2.0 Ah batteries, a charger, 39 accessories and a tool bag. Bosch Professional positions this GSR as the entry-level model in its 12V range.

The machine has two speeds. The lower setting delivers more torque for screwdriving, the higher one for drilling. The no-load speed of 1300 rpm is modest – don't expect fast holes in hardwood. But for plasterboard, plywood, soft metal or assembling furniture, it's sufficient. There's no hammer action. That means: no drilling in stone or concrete. This machine isn't designed for that.

The chuck accepts bits and drill bits up to 10 mm. That covers most household tasks: holes for wall plugs, screws in wood, light metalwork. The 21 adjustable torque settings give you control over how deep a screw goes – handy with soft materials or finishing work.

The GSR 12V-15 uses a brushed motor. That's older technology – less efficient than a brushless motor, but cheaper. The motor has 21 torque settings, a drill setting and a screwdriving setting. There's a worklight: an LED that illuminates the work area. Handy in dark corners. The machine weighs about 1.1 kg without the battery – light enough for overhead work, but not as light as the smallest 12V models.

The set comes with 39 accessories. Bosch doesn't list them individually – expect drill bits, screwdriver bits, an extension and a magnetic holder. The tool bag is fabric, not plastic. So it's not a hard case, but a shoulder bag. That saves space in the cupboard.

The set includes two 2.0 Ah batteries. That's on the small side – 2.0 Ah is enough for around 50 to 80 screws in plywood, depending on screw size. But with two batteries you can keep working: one charges in the AL 1115 CV charger, the other is in the machine. The 80-minute charge time is average. The charger is a standard model – not a fast charger, but reliable.

The batteries work on the Bosch POWER FOR ALL 12V platform. That means they also fit other Bosch 12V tools: a multi-tool, a light, a jigsaw. Handy if you're already in that ecosystem.

The GSR 12V-15 is a good choice if you occasionally need a drill for light jobs. Assembling furniture, hanging curtain rails, drilling a shelf – this machine handles those without issue. The 30 Nm is enough for screws up to 6 mm in softwood. The two batteries and 39 accessories make the set complete: you have everything you need straight away.

This machine isn't suitable for heavy work: drilling into concrete (no hammer action), large holes in hardwood, or driving thick screws into beams. For that you need an 18V machine with more torque. The brushed motor is also less efficient and won't last as long as a brushless one – but for occasional use, that's not a problem.

The machine lacks electronic speed control on the trigger – that's a miss for precision work. You switch between the two fixed speeds via a slider. The worklight is there, but not dimmable. Small details, but they're the points that separate a professional tool from a consumer one.
