MasterLock L1200 Fireproof Safe – Document Safe

The MasterLock L1200 is built around a UL/ETL certification that guarantees 30 minutes of fire protection up to 843°C – and that defines the character of this safe. It is a compact, portable solution for home use, designed to secure documents, photos and digital media such as USB sticks or hard drives. The safe locks with a key, not a combination code. With a capacity of 5 litres and a weight of 6 kg, the L1200 fits in a cupboard or on a shelf – but it is not intended for large volumes or heavy items.

The L1200 is made from ABS, an impact-resistant plastic. That keeps the weight down – 6 kg – and makes the safe easy to move via the integrated handle. The external dimensions are modest: 15.6 cm high, 36.5 cm wide and 28.4 cm deep. The colour is black, the design functional. No frills. The safe is not electric, works without batteries or mains power. That is an advantage: no electronics that can fail. The downside: no alarm, no digital access.

The internal space is 8.9 cm high, 30.5 cm wide and 19.1 cm deep. That is enough for a stack of documents, a few folders, photos, USB sticks, an external hard drive or small electronics such as a tablet. A laptop does not fit – the height is too limited. The safe is intended for home use: important papers, digital backups, jewellery or small valuables. No burglar resistance certification – this is a fire-resistant safe, not a burglar-proof one. If you primarily need protection against fire and water, the L1200 is a practical choice. If you need burglary prevention, a steel safe with certification is a better alternative.

The L1200 comes with two keys and a manual. No mounting hardware – the safe is free-standing. The handle makes it easy to move, but the safe has no fixing points for bolting down. That means someone could take the whole safe. For extra security, it is wise to place the safe out of sight or in a fixed cupboard.
