The Philips Lumea Prestige 8000 series BRI949/00 uses IPL light to put hair follicles into a resting phase – with 4 attachments for different body areas.
IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) sends gentle light pulses to the hair root. The effect builds up: after 3 treatments, independent studies show up to 92% less hair. The first 4 sessions are every 2 weeks, then once a month for maintenance. After 12 treatments, average hair reduction is 86% on lower legs, 70% on the bikini line, 67% on underarms. There is a limit: white, grey, light blonde or red hair does not respond. Very dark skin is also excluded – the skin tone sensor detects this and blocks the flash.
The SmartSkin sensor reads your skin tone and adjusts the light intensity. Four attachments swap by zone: body (4.1 cm2), bikini line (3 cm2), face (2 cm2 – with extra UV filter). The device works corded – the cable is extra long, but you are not free to move around. The lamp lasts 450,000 flashes, meaning years of use. The free Lumea app lets you set a schedule per body area with reminders.
