Tefal Ingenio Emotion ON Pan Set – 20-piece, stackable, induction

The Tefal Ingenio Emotion ON 20-piece pan set is designed around a detachable handle. It sounds simple, but it changes how you use pans: from hob to oven, from oven to fridge. No separate pans for each heat source, no messing about with loose handles.

The set includes 8 pans – two frying pans (22 and 24 cm), a 28 cm frying pan, a 26 cm wok pan, a 24 cm saute pan, and three saucepans (16, 18 and 20 cm). Along with four pan protectors, two detachable handles, a serving spoon and two spatulas. Twenty pieces in total.

The handle is made from plastic and attaches via a 3-point safety system. According to the specs, it can hold up to 10 kg. That's enough for a full pan – a hearty stew or soup stays stable. But plastic can't handle oven heat. The pans themselves are oven-safe, the handle is not. You notice that. If you want to put a pan in the oven, you remove the handle. The pans have no fixed handles – it's the detachable one or nothing. For oven use, that means placing the pan without handles and using oven gloves.

The system saves cupboard space. The pans nest inside each other – a stackable design, as Tefal calls it. No protruding handles getting in the way. For smaller kitchens, that's a practical advantage.

The pans are made from stainless steel with a thick aluminium base. Aluminium conducts heat quickly and evenly – that's the idea. In practice, it means fewer hot spots and more even browning. The non-stick coating is titanium-based. Tefal claims it's PFOA-free, without lead or cadmium. A Thermo-Signal heat indicator on the base of each pan shows when the pan has reached the right temperature: an hourglass pattern disappears. It's not guesswork – you see it happen.

The set weighs 3 kg for the pans themselves, the packaging weighs 7.9 kg. The handles are plastic with a 'cool touch' feature – they stay cool during cooking. But note: plastic isn't heat-resistant in the oven, as mentioned. The lids are glass (included with the set) and have a locking lid – handy for storing leftovers in the fridge without spills.

In practice, the Ingenio set is all about convenience. You cook, remove the handle, put the pan in the oven to gratin or keep warm. Then slide the pan with the lid straight into the fridge. No separate containers, no extra washing up. The pans are microwave-safe – that saves steps too.

The set is suitable for all heat sources: gas, electric, ceramic, halogen and induction. That's broad. No separate pans for different hobs. The non-stick coating is dishwasher-safe, but as with any non-stick coating: hand washing extends its life. The included pan protectors prevent scratches when stacking.

One thing to know: the 26 cm wok pan has a flat bottom – suitable for induction, but not for traditional wokking on a gas burner with a high rim. It's a wok shape, not a real wok. For stir-frying it works fine, for deep frying less so.

The frying pans have diameters of 22, 24 and 28 cm. That covers most dishes: an omelette in the 22 cm, a few pancakes in the 24 cm, a whole salmon fillet in the 28 cm. The 16, 18 and 20 cm saucepans are good for sauces, soups and small portions of pasta. The 24 cm saute pan is deeper than a frying pan – handy for stews or one-pot meals.

The set comes complete with a serving spoon and two spatulas – plastic, as usual with non-stick coatings to prevent scratches.
